Who We Are

Founded by Anna Waters and Louise Walker in August 2023, The Oaks Learning Hub is a vibrant learning community for home-educating families with children aged 6-14.

We believe that every child is naturally curious and capable of learning in their own unique way. Our hub offers a supportive and creative environment where children can flourish outside of the mainstream educational system.

Our Philosophy

01

Core Learning:  Maths and English

We place a strong emphasis on developing essential skills in Maths and English. Through engaging lessons and real-world problem-solving, we help children build their confidence in:

  • Literacy: From reading and comprehension to creative writing, we nurture each child's ability to communicate effectively and express their ideas.

  • Numeracy: Our engaging approach to maths encourages children to see the subject as both practical and fun, helping them develop solid skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and number fluency.

02

Creative, Topic-Based Curriculum

Beyond Maths and English, we explore a range of subjects through a topic-based approach. This allows children to dive deeper into themes that interest them, making learning both exciting and meaningful. Subjects include:

  • Outdoor Learning: Forest School and Bush-craft are an essential part of our curriculum offering. Promoting hands-on learning in nature, developing practical bush-craft skills (we use Wild Passport) and a love for the environment.

  • History and Geography: Understanding the world through its stories and landscapes.

  • Science: Encouraging curiosity about the natural world with experiments and exploration.

  • Art and Craft: Fostering creativity and self-expression through various artistic mediums.

03

Building Confidence and Skills

Whether in our regular sessions, tutoring, or holiday clubs, we focus on building confidence and fostering a lifelong love of learning. Children progress at their own pace, developing both academically and socially in a nurturing environment.

What We Offer

At The Oaks Learning Hub, we offer a variety of flexible learning opportunities designed to support home-educated children in their academic and personal growth. Our programs are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child, providing both group learning and personalised support.

  • Curriculum Days (Ages 6-14):
Currently held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30-2.45 (with plans for a third Wednesday session in 2025), our curriculum days focus on late KS1, KS2 and KS3, blending core learning in Maths and English with a creative, topic-based curriculum. These sessions encourage children to explore subjects like History, Geography, Science, Art, Music, and Outdoor Learning, while building essential skills in a fun and social environment. Our KS3 pod builds academic readiness for more structured pre-GCSE/GCSE level learning.

  • 10+ ‘Thrive Tribe for Teens:
Designed for children aged 11 and above, our Monday afternoon Nurture Club from 12.30-2 provides a calm, enriching environment where children can develop confidence at their own pace. This is an ideal space for children who benefit from smaller group settings and gentle encouragement to re-engage with learning again. (Can be used to build readiness for KS3 curriculum days and The Hive Learning Community.)

  • 10+ Curriculum Day - Wednesdays 10.30-3.30: we are in the process of developing a full-day curriculum offering for children age 10-14. Children in this age group study Maths and English at late KS2 and KS3, building academic readiness toward KS4 and GCSE level study. Alongside maths and english children will take-part Outdoor Learning and bush-craft skills (Wild Passport), Art, Science and Humanities. The day can be combined with a Tuesday and/or Thursdays curriculum day, or as a stand-alone part of your child's learning. Register your interest here.

  • Small-Group and 1:1 Tutoring:
We offer small-group tutoring and 1:1 tutoring for children who need additional support in specific subjects or areas. These sessions are personalised to each child's needs, whether they require help with core subjects like Maths and English. Tutoring is available as a complement to our curriculum days or as a standalone option for families seeking extra guidance. Please contact us to enquire about available sessions.

  • Holiday Sessions
During Easter and Summer, we run Holiday Clubs that offer a mix of fun and educational activities. These clubs provide children with the opportunity to continue learning in a relaxed setting, make new friends, and explore a variety of creative projects, games, and outdoor activities.

  • Creative Learning Approach:
Across all of our offerings, we focus on fostering a love for learning through engaging, hands-on experiences. Children progress at their own pace, developing not only their core academic skills but also their confidence, curiosity, and social connections.
